I guess that's the US perspective. I think the world is going to shit (via bush being office) and sports are a great way to sit back and forget about it all for a couple hours. Football is okay but here in canada the CFL is like watching 10th string players who dont care if they win or not. NFL is good but there's no home team here in toronto because we have the argos (CFL). Baseball is a yacht race.. wont get into that. Basketball is all I got without hockey... and it will never replace hockey.

The truth is, hockey will never lose its fan base in Canada.. it's something they can always depend on as a cushion, but the longer this strike goes on, the more american viewers will forget about it. Wayne Gretzky did a great job getting americans to tune into the game and now its all going backwards fast. In the end, I dont really care, cause if less americans watch that means Quebec City, Winnipeg and other medium sized cities in canada might get their teams back. It's tough for canadians seeing their hockey teams go to a city in the desert (and then winning the stanely cup lol).

But honestly, the owners are partially at fault here. All of these expansion teams, extending the amount of games played, the amount of travelling and driving up ticket prices fighting with each other.. and now that they've screwed it up so bad, the players are suppose to take one for the team? doesnt really make sense. In toronto the tickets to a game cost $200 a piece on average and its almost impossible to get a ticket. That's a hockey city and always will be.
