Makes perfect sense.

Though the bible makes small of it, the greatest part of Jesus' life was spent being just a regular guy. When the time came, the miracles began to flow -- and there began the process of CONVINCING certain people that you are the real thing. Since everybody expected a Messiah, the first thing you had to do was be consistent with the prophecy with what they were EXPECTING.

Imagine Jesus sort of on a date with each Apostle -- you know, just having that getting-to-know-you slightly nervous chit-chat. Jesus is thinking "I think I'm gonna bang this one" And the prospetive disciple is wondering "Is HE the one."

Jesus would have to be gentle with the little guy, and not just let the whole truth out once -- "I AM THE SON OF GOOD!" Yeah, right -- CYA later, he would say.

So, Jesus was given a recorded personal history that would enable him to seduce his followers, first, by playing into their existing mythology, and then, later, by offering no contradictions when he explained who his father really was.
