if you create the right atmosphere at the shoot, and treat the performers properly, and keep everything very relaxed and loose your guys can perform. much depends on how you talk to the performers. NEVER be critical, always give positive verbal reinforcement, and never work by the clock---work by the wood. pace the performers, when shooting with guys you must work around their libido, that means when they have wood you shoot like crazy, and when they don't you go set your lights and let the models continue to play, and be ready to immediately start shooting again when you have wood.
if your guys can't get wood then the karma is not right on the set or the girls aren't right for the guys.
wood is about 50% mental.
