Up to a point. Some customers go so far the only proper thing to is give them some/all of their money back and tell them you don't want them as a customer any longer. That's the one thing they don't expect and it usually makes quite an impression.
There's a rather amusing website devoted entirely to asshole customers. Its mainly devoted to retail but funny none-the-less.
