Usually big fitness centers and health clubs are pretty expensive and want a 3 year contract. I go to a mom & pop gym that gives me 1 year contract at $40/month. There are some gyms that charge month to month, but they're really uncommon. If you are committed, then signing the contract isn't a big deal. You will almost always get a gym that's closer to your house and they're often cheaper if you agree to a contract. You might want to find a month to month gym anyway, just to see if you'll stick with it.
