Does it happen every night?

Does it happen if you try to take a quick nap during the day or if you try deep relaxation/meditation?

Next time you go to sleep try to observe yourself during the process.

It will be hard as we are just used to drifting off and waking up in the morning for many years but if you regularly try to remain conscious while falling asleep (if that makes any sense) you may learn something about the process that will remove your fear of death. I think we all have an inbuilt fear of death whether we say we are religeous/spiritual atheist whatever. Another name for it is the survival instinct.

Some things you may notice immediately or after a while of trying regularly may include hearing/feeling a buzzing or ringing sensation as well as paralysis, (not being able to move your body or really be aware of it at all but still be conscious).
