The Blaclbird SR-71 was Developed in the 60's and active in the 70's.. I believe they were 8 built,6 of which are grounded or in Museums. The remaining 2 are used as test beds for Nasa for study of Aeronatical stress tests under high Mach speeds..Again there is a Nasa test center at Edwards airforce base..Not the launch pad in Florida..
Did you know when the Blackbird is grounded it leaks fuel and when flying at half throttle it seals it self up.. It actually expands 4 inches under normal throttle which is mach3..One of the greatest pieces of aviation history..
