It is used by a few, but it's a flawed argument.

1. Man did not evolve from monkeys and apes, we had a common ancestor.

2. Even if we did evolve from monkeys and apes (which we didn't) that doesn't mean monkeys and apes can't still be around. There are tons of primitave species that still exist, which brought about other species; sharks, round worms, ferns, conifers, just to name a few.
