Taxes in the USA on purchases. Explain them to canadians.

In canada we have PST and GST

provincial sales tax
and government sales tax.

In quebec.

PST is 8% or something
and GST is 7% accross the country.

about the same as in Ontario. These are on GOODS, not essentials such as bread.

which means buying a TV advertised at 100$ means you pay 115$ at the cash register.

a car for 10k means it will cost you 11.5k

how does this work in the US???
