I'd recommend you redirect hotlinked graphics to another graphic or even better.. a script/application with a referrer tag embedded.

With the script/application, you can check the referring URL and send the appropriate format (graphic image or movie).

And you can always look at what graphic they're referring to. If it's in your thumbs directory, send them a fake "Fuck off, asshole" file. If it's a full size image you think they're linking directly to (not via an <IMG>), maybe you send them to a popup hell.
