They just use the latest poll which swings pretty wildly because it can be a different poll everytime.
I follow Real Clear Politics which uses an average of many polls.

The battleground states are REAL close. Looks to me like whomever wins any 2 of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania will most likely win the election.
