In the morning all I could remember was that whatever it was, it was amazing. 
I use one of those slim one touch memo recorder things, about $60 from Sams Club. I can reach for it, press record and put it back pretty much without having to move, turn on the light or even open my eyes.
Some stuff won't make any sense at all untill days, weeks or even months later.

Hilarious! The worst thing I imagine would be if you get up with the least bit of energy your body allows you while dozing off, record your message but then forget that you ever recorded one in the morning.
