The brother-in-law of one of my old girlfriends in LA, Bob Merrill, wrote that song. You wouldn't believe the royalty money he made off that dumb simple puppy song. He also wrote "People" for Barbra Streisand. Another big one. Sadly, he blew his brains out when he found out he had terminal cancer a few years ago.
