Wireless. I'm not saying they WERE playing - as they obviously weren't - it appeared that they were strumming along with the recorded track, but almost everyone uses wireless now.

Cord goes from the guitar to a transmitter attached to the guitar strap or the musician's belt. Few guitar players plug in directly anymore - and the ones that do will stop the first time they get 115 volts direct into their faces because of a bad ground, or when some asshole singer stands on their cord and rips the jack and/or endpin out of their classic Telecaster.
