It was actually bait of the Spanish succession war where Holland and England both fought against French supremacy because of French claims to the Spanish throne.
They were led by the Dutch protestant king William III who ruled England and Holland at the same time at that moment.
He was married to Mary Stuart and became King of England when he chased away the catholic King Jacob, with an invasion force of only 20.000 soldiers.
This Jacob later became known as "the pretender" (of the crown).

This all happened from about 1688 to 1702 (1713)
