Media, that's great! I think that a lot of people don't realize just how much care and patience pets require. They often expect them to be self-sufficient and self-contained. When I was volunteering at the SPCA, I was amazed to find out how many people bring their pets in for surrender "because they shed". Are they fucking kidding me? My mouth literally dropped open when I heard that!

Pets can be a lot of work. I currently have fish, fiddler crabs, and 4 cats (although 2 of those, we just rescued from a parking lot at the casino 2 weeks ago, and they are waiting to find their new homes), and they can keep me pretty busy, but they are all worth it! I had a blue heeler many years ago. He was the sweetest little dog, but he was also pretty possessive about his people. I think that may be in their nature. He was a collector too. One day I looked under my house and found gloves, hats, stuffed animals, toys, even a pan & lid, that he had collected and stashed in his "secret" hiding spot. Heelers are awesome!
