The D70 is a nice camera, a little bit noisy (noisier as the Canon Counterparts) but as long as you stay with ISO 200 (the lowest setting) you should do fine.
Stay away from the 24-120mm, sorry to say that, this is the most shitty zoom Nikon ever built and sold. yes its popular due to its large zoom Range and the new VR but optical its a mess. (see link here

Getyouself the 28-70 (if you are willing to spend the same money for the lens as for the camera or go with the 28-105. Both are much better options optical wise.
