There's a lot of truth to this, coming down to each party's definition of "patriotism". One interesting analogy is that Republicans love their country in a maternal fashion, such as the way you love your parents. You love them regardless of however they fucked up your life.
Democrats love their country just as much, but it's a love that requires reciprocation. Such as the way you love your wife. You're still willing to call bullshit if she betrays you.
