Now before you flame on assault remember there is a charge specifically called assault and battery and assault with a deadly weapon so yeah just words are considered an attack of a lower level. Assault is nothing more than agression towards another person in general. It has to be directed at him personally so you would have to say, "YOU are a XXXX" not just using profanity unless there is a law about public use of profanity. Either way it is best just to keep your cool and keep your mouth shut.
