I hear ya -- don't keep all your eggs in one basket, right? So don't. Try the system out -- even if it's only in a few zones. I think you'll enjoy having a better understanding of your traffic and what works with it. Not to mention the convenience of consolidated payouts.
On a slightly confrontational note, however, don't forget that probably 80% of the average US webmaster's eggs are in one large, monopolistic basket called Visa/MC.
