I talk to these guys sometimes. They simply don't want to hear the truth. Then, there are the guys who think that once a photo appears in a newsgroup it becomes public domain.

I'd say "Good luck in court," except that I don't hope is luck is good. The more morons end up paying dearly, the more the rest of the crowd will get the message: There are only two types of public domain photos: 1) those which are so old they are out of copyright (want to set up a French Postcard site?), and those which have been placed in the public domain in writing by the copyright holder...and you'd better be holding the piece of paper.
