The #1 means of spreading viruses is thick skulls that insist on opening attatchments
Over 6 years on this system I have upgraded from 98 to SE to ME and now XP and have pretty much replaced the whole computer around itself while letting OE update itself all along, and in the rare need to format or replace hard drive backed up and restored OE and updated from there. I keep my AV updated, I don't click on attatchments (in fact with SP2 default they're blocked), and I have
never gotten any infections from OE. Between all the junk mail I get in the accounts I've collected over the years and the various mailing lists/yahoo groups I'm a member of my OE is easily processing a couple thousand messages a day.
