IMO it has a lot to do with the way the US media works. They make politics into a football game, you're supposed to pick your side and root for them until the end.
Hey I'm a Colts fan, if you tell me a valid reason why they're going to lose I'm not going to listen to it. If you tell me Edgerrin James fumbled 2 times in the opening week I'm going to make up an excuse and tell you your team fucking sucks. Sadly people are being trained to do the same thing with politics. Letting each side spit out their talking points is very far from being news, I don't know why the 24 hour networks are legally allowed to call themselves that.
