The challenge is easy for people, but impossible for automated systems to complete.

This keeps the spam out. "

When a member signs up for my site we send them a automatically generated email. Spamarrest then sends us an email asking us to confirm that we sent it and that it's not spam. Being as this email is automatically generated, if Spamarrest replies to our email we'll never see it - and thus it gets blocked.
you are correct about the fact that an e-mail is sent out but a automated system cannot reply.

BUT!

You can authorize e-mails that weren't verified by the sender so you still get automated messages you DO want to receive.

I've told this over and over and the SpamArrest states this in their FAQ too. I receive every single sponsor e-mail I want and if your theory would be right I would receive none.

If people would only read!

edit:

taken from the FAQ area on SpamArrest.com:

"Does Spam Arrest work with automated emails?

Yes! You are able to approve/block automated senders in the Unverified Mail folder. If you receive an email from an automated address (like [email protected]), simply approve it once, and all future emails from that address will automatically be passed through to your inbox."
