Make sure your trainer teaches you a lot of the good, basic exercises. If he brings out a swiss ball, go find a new trainer.

The best question to ask a trainer before using him is: "Am I your student or your client?"

Lastly, stop using the trainer (even if he is good!) after 2-3 months because at that time, you should know enough about weightlifting to do it yourself.
