You have to find what works for your body, everyones is different. I woud say guys need more good carbs then girls just because they have more muscle fiber.
I have been doing only very low glycemic carbs for almost a year now and have never felt or looked better. I am pretty stict with what I eat and it has worked great for me and it can work for you to.
Don't worry about what other people say, just do what works for your body and you will be thin and happy.
