Not everyone. There were some people who didn't vote for it and there were people like myself who were against it from the beginning. What I did say, and voiced to all my government representatives, is that if they were going to implement a "Patriot Act" that it have a definite, short term end date. Say 2 years from 9/11 so that it couldn't be abused.
As we're seeing now, it is being abused. Every week or so there's a news story circulating around about someone arrested for drugs, porn, being "anti-government" (read: critical of the president), etc. because of an element of the Patriot Act. Don't you think that will increase exponentially if Bush gets reelected?
They have nothing to lose politically. They can literally do anything if they keep all the branches of the government. Literally. Bush can't be reelected for a 3rd term and Cheney doesn't want to be President. Even the republicans can recover from his lunacy if they just say "Yeah, we don't know what the deal was with THAT guy.. vote for our Reagan-bot for President 2008!" They WILL crack down on porn. They WILL crack down on the internet in general. They WILL invade another country (I predict Iran or Syria, when Sudan is who needs us.) based on sketchy info. I can feel it in my bones.
Tinfoil hat time? Maybe. But I don't think so. Frankly, I'm more scared for our future than I ever have been in my 37 yrs.
