If you've already asked the question 'how should I play,' and then brought up the situation where you were down what seems to be a substantial amount to you.... don't play. if you have the "I don't want to lose'' mentality, just stay home.
Otherwise, my advice would be find a lower limit game where the idiots play.... poker is just a game of bingo, all about luck right?
If it's "too low limit for me," remember winning what you consider a little is better than losing what you consider a lot.
