In all the cases I have seen - there has been no doubt that the person was pretending to be under age.
I seriously doubt they would try and do that. Why? Even if you thing cops are dishonest (most are BASICALLY honest), there is no reason for them to.
Look at it like speeding - a cop COULD lie and say you were speeding, but why bother - he can find plenty of speeders without having to lie.
FBI agents really are trying to get real preditors off the net. They don't need to "entrap" you - as it is easy to find men that will fall for a 16 year old.
Be careful if it is in another state. Then the age of consent doesn't apply. In many states - like MD - I could meet a 16 year old and have sex with her. Over state lines - it is 18 - even if both states are 16.
If I crossed state lines to do it - then the feds might take over. Usually the feds (I Think this used to be true - may have changed with new laws) try to lure you over state lines. There are more crimes the can arrest you for that way.
