I can't accept from a visual analysis standpoint that all of our knowledge, reasoning, memory, creativity, etc. can all be coming just from that blob. No way.


They can fire up random memories by stimulating synapses in the brain.. memories are stored in the brain. Thats pretty much all there is to it.
Consciousness is tied directly to the brain... as is memory, personality, knowledge, creativity which are all altered by damage to the brain. If it wasn't, someone with a gradually increasing brain disorder like Alzheimer's Disease wouldn't slowly lose their personality memories etc.

Don't underestimate that blob, don't judge a brain by it's cover, we will no doubt not fully understand it for centuries.
