Jackson: I Want An Explosive Exit
27 June 2003 (WENN)
Star Wars star Samuel L. Jackson is determined to die in a spectacular way in the final prequel Episode III. The super cool star hopes creator George Lucas has penned a dramatic finale for his character Mace Windu when he jets off to Australia to begin filming next month. He says, "I'm just going to die, you know? I'm basically going down there hoping that I'm going to have this really awesome lightsaber battle with somebody that takes me out in the proper way. You know, the way a Jedi of my status deserves to be taken out." And Jackson relishes the chance to get to grips with the fabled lightsaber. He says, "I like the fighting sequences the best. They're good fun to prepare for and also good fun to shoot. It's one of the rare instances in the Star Wars movies when you're working with someone else, because you can't really swordfight on your own. However, most of the other scenes seem to be played into midair with computer-generated characters." Jackson remains convinced that starring in the oft-derided prequels was a positive step. He says, "Mace is kind of evolving for me. And it's been a wonderful experience being able to be in Star Wars, first of all because I was a huge fan. I used to sit around and wonder how you got into something like that and how great it would be to be in it. Fortunately for me, somebody must have heard me and I'm in it!"
'Star Wars' Title Riddle
26 June 2003 (WENN)
The final prequel in the Star Wars franchise will be entitled Episode III: An Empire Divided, according to reports on the internet. Internet critic Harry Knowles , of fabled film website Ain't It Cool News, received a tip off from an Australian contact who spotted an article in a local newspaper, in which a local casting agency talked about recruiting for the film. Correspondent Clinton Kardi noted the casting agency mentioned the title of the new movie, which will begin shooting in Australia shortly, as they talked to the journalist - but Lucasfilm has yet to confirm if the report is true. Frenzied speculation has surrounded the eagerly-awaited film - due for release in 2005 - which will be the last of the legendary Star Wars films from creator George Lucas .
To Be Vader Or Not To Be Vader
29 April 2003 (WENN)
Star Wars creator George Lucas is leaving fans in the dark as to whether Darth Vader will feature at the end of Episode III. The bearded filmmaker has refused to reveal how the third installment of the beloved franchise will end - and even star Hayden Christensen has little idea. When asked if he would be donning the legendary black armor, Christensen says, "No, not as far as I know. It's not in the story if we begin from where we left off." And Christensen also doubts they'll be any mask wearing or asthmatic breathing either. He adds, "None of that, as far as I know. But that's very little. George Lucas is notorious, he keeps it all very secretive." However, considering James Earl Jones who voiced the original Vader has been booked to appear at the end of the movie, the dark cloaked one may well make his welcome return.
Chewie Is Bacca
25 April 2003 (WENN)
Star Wars fans are rejoicing after George Lucas decided to resurrect beloved character Chewbacca in Episode III. The Wookie, played in the original trilogy by Peter Mayhew , will be part of the action in the last of the prequels - due to hit screens in 2005. And Mayhew - a regular at fan conventions - will reprise his role as Han Solo's trusty sidekick. Mayhew says, "I'm delighted to return as Chewbacca. I think his re-appearance in this film is a fitting way to tie the whole saga together, especially for Wookie fans."
Lucas Says He's Planning on Becoming a "Complete Failure"
15 January 2003 (StudioBriefing)
George Lucas has said that once he winds up the Star Wars movies next year, he intends to make "more personal" films that he doubts will be box-office successes. "I'm going to go from complete success to complete failure," he told Fox.com's Roger Friedman . "I'm going to make a bunch of movies like THX," he said, referring to the 15-minute sci-fi film that he made while a student at the University of Southern California that brought him to the attention of Hollywood. "If people don't like it, too bad," he said, predicting, "There won't be any big dramas or Oscars." He did not specify what sort of film he has in mind.
