The fastest, easiest way to diagnose a pc is experience. Each component has a way of acting when it's "bad".

The fastest, easiest way to get that experience (and to diagnose parts) is to keep a stock of very widely used, highly compatible parts to swap out for testing. Software tests can take a LONG time - much more time efficient to swap parts, as the time you spend running one deep diagnostic test you could swap nearly everything.

Ram and cables are the fastest and easiest to start with. Then CPU, powersupply and mobo.

Start working on and building your own machines, then for other people and then the general public. I was building and doing repairs before I got into the net stuff. It's not a bad living.
