I played with card counting 20 years ago, made some money but its brutally hard and tiresome - worse job I ever had in my life. Read Kenny Ustin (sic) book - Million Dollar Blackjack for an overview.
You can make money because the cards are not always random - a few times a night the remaining deck is ace and 10 rich and you can move in for the kill.
With random decks played by online though, its not possible to beat.
