If your server supports it, you can put some php in there. Make it simple. As for SE-friendly, just have apache allow .html or .htm whatever you are using as php.

That way you can still have your page.html which as long as you don't need to pass params in the URL, will be fine for SE.

If you must pass parameters, try:

www.site.com/example/param1/param2

where example is actually your php page, defined to be read as php and not as a directory in apache.
