Its extremely important to the travel industry since not only do 1 out of every 4 Americans visit Florida each year, as well as being a major crusie departure point, but its the primary hub to the import export industry to South America.
Its a leading state for research, technology, and hosts the south eastern US NAP point for the Net.
The GDP for Florida is 1/2 a Trillion dollars. So its a major provider of tax revenue to the Federal government.
So bottom line Florida is one of the nation's most important states.
