I use to have a doberman which was an awesome dog. Had it since a puppy and socalized it with people which made guests feel much more comfortable around the doberman and when I took her for walks kids use to be able to play with her and I really didn't have a fear she would bite but you never know.

No dog can bite a bullet, the idea behind the dog is to be a better set of ears than you have. They will alert you to the presence of another person. Everyone I know who has a golden has a nice dog, dog loves people and kids, but if they are not home and you come to the house the dog will bark, if you raise your voice to them or yell or move towards them fast the dog will bark and growl. If they are on the other side of the house and you come to the front door the dog will bark. The dog knows when there is a problem, it knows its job is to protect the ones who feed and care for it, it knows to alert them to the presence of a stranger and also knows what increased agression is from someone it barely knows towards someone it loves.
I had a pitt who was the same way around children (supervised of course) and strangers. She was well socialized, but she pinned more than one UPS man in his truck if she was watching the house. I have heard of any of the dogs on that list taking a bullet for the safety and protection of its owner when they believe the owner is in danger and that is why they are good dogs for safety. Pitts/mastiffs refuse to back down from anyone that is not its primary care giver, dobermans and rotts are simular when in groups above 2, shepards would rather die than betray or let harm come to its owner, this is why they are used by the police. It is half training and half the nature of the dog.
