No.. the children were not members of the church. The church.. which apparently is just one of a few, that has this habit of going round the locality and picking up kids playing outside their homes and loading em on to a bus and taking them to "hear the word of the Lord" at some church.
I can't remember the name of the church.. there are loads with similiar names.. but not JW's - it was "Bible.. something".
The problem got kinda severe when parents got pissed on previous occasions - they did not know where there kids had gone.
There was no indication of any "child offenses" - the "Chistians" just wanted to pump em with their brand of religion of the week.
They had loads of "warnings" over this in the past and kept doing it.
It was at that point they chose the wrong kid and his mother decided enough is enough and located the "church", kicked the door in and made it clear to the pastor and his adult flock that if they take any more children - she will cuff him and see him in jail.
They seem to have avoided that area lately :-) But an eye is being kept on them - and they *will* be charged as promised. Apparently, this is technically "kidnapping" in Texas - tho I doubt the pastor would get a long term :-) This was done just to get their heads in order.
Apparently ... I dunno, was only explained to me.. that this is not uncommon there with "churches" and some folks get pissed :-)

I agree that it is WRONG to do this. If someone wants to take a child to church, he/she MUST get the consent of the parent or guardian. They were wrong to do what they did, good intentions or not. If they do it again, they SHOULD be arrested.
People do stupid things in the name of God. That doesn't mean that God gives his blessing.
