I had a similar problem but with a courier company. Someone at that company scribbled out the (correct) street name on the address label and wrote in another similar sounding one. They then dumped it at the local post office at the end of the day since that street name didn't exist. (How is the PO supposed to help when a street doesn't exist...?) When I rang the couriers up to find out where the parcel was I said "OK, leave it at the post office, I am 2 mins drive away, I'll pick it up tomorrow..."
I go to the PO the next day and of course they've ignored my instructions: they have picked it up again and it's back on the courier truck. I ended up picking it up from their depot that night. They never called me back to tell me why the address was changed.
The stupid thing is that the warehouse it was shipped from is only about a 30 min round trip. I should have just picked it up from there, instead of waiting 3 days, driving for about 50 mins, and on top of that paying the courier's fee for a package they didn't deliver!
Spaceace, you should be asking the same question I did: if there was a problem with delivery, why wasn't the shipping merchant contacted so they could call and get the correct details. One phone call could have saved a lot of wasted time.
