All that don't matter! :-) As long as your g/f didn't bang his head into the piano first and slam the lid! *g* Maybe she should have!
That is an assault and there is no excuse for that - don't matter a lot what his story is.
"Capture" any evidence now... by either reporting to the police or by going to a hospital. (May be you have time to consider things by using the hospital route - but don't know what this means re the law).
