Like most other Americans, I was only exposed to English as a child. I learned Greek and Latin in school but these are dead languages. I don't currently speak any living language well enough to converse in it. I have studied several (mostly exotic languages) and have a general familiarity with the grammar of many others.
I'm not saying this to brag. I have a PhD in linguistics. Studying the properties of human language is what linguists do.
