This depends on what exactly city in Russia you are going to visit. For instance, Moscow is included in top 3 most expensive cities in the world (fyi: NY is not included even in top 10). Everything in Moscow is extremely expensive (taxi, hotels, restaurant and even hookers ;)) Sometimes 2-3 times more expensive than in NY. Say you'll pay $60-$80 for a taxi if you want to be delivered for an airport to some hotel in center of Moscow. That is a day-time price. The night-time price will be at least 2 times higher. Or another example. Two months ago I had a business lunch in one of Moscow Sushi bars (not cheapest but also not the most expensive one) with some German content provider who was living in NY for a long time. So he said me that in NY one can eat 3 times more Sushi for a same price. I don't know a price in Sushi bars of NY, but we spent about $100 for our 3-person lunch. Also do won't find any hotel in Moscow lover than $60-$70 per day for an extremely shitty one-room apartment. Normal apartments will cost for a few hundreds and up to few thousands of $ per day.
P.S. Russia has changed alot during last 10 years.
