Yes, I was told that they have to send the checks to the US bank, just as in the UK. Say I paid you a check for £50. Your account may be Natest, but my bank is Midlands. Natwest send Midlands the check and they then send the cash to natwest (or something like that).

As such the cost to pay a USA check into your account should be no more than a UK check, except for the cost of postage. That is unless USA banks charge UK banks for doing this. I wonder if I send a check to the USA if USA banks charge for providing this service.
