At least you just had a mixup with the bank. Bank of Montreal ended up dragging my parents into a LAWSUIT over a real estate deal gone bad.
It was a real clusterfuck. They sold a commercial building and held part of the mortgage, the bank held another mortgage, or something like that.
The person that bought it eventually quit making their payments to my parents so they threatened to cut off his septic system, since part of it was still located on adjacent property that my parents owned.
The person went bankrupt and tried to burn the building down. To make a long story short, his lawyer was eventually sued by the bank for various reasons, and my folks were dragged into it as a third party because of threatening to cut off his septic system. (banks says it made the property unsellable). Ended up costing them $10,000 as a settlement, and about $100,000 in legal fees.
Unfortunately we still have a large portion of our banking with them because it would cost a lot of money to switch our business over.
