every genius is arrogant - it's part of being a genius (ok, but being a prick doesn't always mean you're a genius either).
I think he was just aloof - that's how he comes across in video performances and interviews. Unfortunately, in music, the cream doesn't usually rise to the top. So yea, he might never have achieved the status & popularity of someone like ummmm... P Diddy.
Doesn't mean he wasn't brilliant in his abilities. The singer from Coldplay has admitted that everytime he sings he's trying to channel Buckley - too bad he's a third-rate imitation. Don't get me wrong, I like Coldplay strictly as a pop act - but there's innovators and imitators and whatever you want to say about Jeff Buckley - you can't deny that he was totally his own creation.
