Woman assaulted at Wellington Street location

Shortly after 8 a.m. today (Wednesday, August 25, 2004), a 45-year-old woman from Toronto was approaching the food court area at 66-100 Wellington St, via the escalator, on her way to work. She got to the bottom, where she was approached by her estranged husband.
He fired shots in her direction but did not hit her. She started to run away but she tripped and fell over. He approached her and started assaulting her.
He then walked away from her and left the building. Police were notified via 911 and officers were given the man?s description.
The woman is in St Michael?s Hospital, being kept for observation. She has a small number of stitches to the head.
Note: subsequent events at Union Station are being investigated by the Special Investigations Unit and we are, therefore, unable to comment on them.

Due to an ongoing Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigation Front Street will remain closed to vehicle traffic from York Street to Bay Street until after rush hour.
Pedestrians will still be able to access Union Station.
The Toronto Police Service would encourage those travelling by car to avoid the general area this evening.
