There is a big different between physical discipline and physical abuse.

I got smacked or ass whipped whenever I did something I wasn't supposed to. Swear, yell at someone, misbehave, disrespect others, etc. All while growing up my dad was complemented on how well behaved my brothers and I were.
Hmm... something went wrong after I moved out, haha.
Kids need a good smacking every now and then. Keeps them tough, teaches them not to whine and bitch about every little booboo, and let's them know who is the boss. Beating your kids is a different story and I know several victims of that...
