Hot sauce being thought of as child abuse........mercy
Besides the whippings, I also used to get my mouth washed out with soap. Except for the fact my stomach turns whenever I smell "Camay", there were no last effects except I stopped what I was being punished for.

You can always find the Southern person in a group. They naturally are repelled by damn near any bar of soap for that one reason.
I used to be like Ralphie in A Christmas Story. I was a soap conniseur...Ivory was just plain nasty, but Safeguard wasn't so bad after the first couple of minutes. Dove was the best, though, with a piquant bouquet and lively aftertaste.
And if hot sauce is thought to be abuse, then I wasn't just abused as a child - I was a poster child for it. I was beat with a jam paddle, (Southern folks might know what that is), a belt, a garden hose, (thanks Mom), and tossed against walls, (again, thanks Mom), when I misbehaved...and sometimes when I didn't.
After being at my mother's house for a weekend, I couldn't wait to get back to the soap that my grandmother provided or the jam paddle she used. Jesus.
