The black space instead of the movie is caused because your video card displays videos in "overlay" mode.
This is a high speed mode that isn't a part of the main desktop, hence can't be captured.
I won't go into the details of it, because I don't know them
A way around it for many cards, is to open the movie once, then open a new instance of media player (leaving the first open as well), and open the same movie.
The new window usually will display the movie in non overlay mode (as overlay mode is already in use by the first movie), allowing it to be captured.
This may depend on the video card, but give it a go.
