Pot is considered a gateway drug because the government puts it in the same class as cocaine, herion, and LSD. People try pot, realize, hey this isnt too bad.... and since the government puts it in the same class as cocaine, LSD, etc, the people think hey, if marijuana isnt bad, these cant be bad. Then they get addicted to hard drugs and end up OD'ing or going broke etc. All because the government puts marijuana in the same class as deadly drugs.

I can only speak for myself. I have tried most drugs once and it had nothing to do with the classification, it had to do with my curiousity. A lot of it was also the "cookie jar" syndrome.
The cookie jar syndrome is something we all suffer from. Basically it is the idea that if we are told that we are not to have something, then we are compelled to obtain it. Think of a child wanting to get into the cookie jar and is told no. The cookie jar is placed on top of the refrigerator. The child will build a ladder out of everything he can find to get to the cookie jar.
