Adult webmasters are so stupid

Seriously, I had a dream last night that was all about one sentence:
"You gotta include an insult in your post if you wanna draw the attention of intelligent people!"
It was so funny dream, I wonder what Freud would have said about this. Well, I might as well try it out!

Adult webmasters are so stupid!

An example:
Let's assume a paysite with two pay periods and a TGP webmaster with an average IQ of TGP webmasters.

Scenario I

Period 1: TGP webmaster sends 10,000 clicks and 10 signups. Conversion rate 1:1000. He's very satisfied and feels like a man.
Period 2: TGP webmaster sends 10,000 clicks and 1 signup. He's very angry because the paysite is cheating him. They only gave him 10 signups for the starters and then started shaving signups. He immediately goes to GFY and warns everyone about the program. He might even add that he cannot pay his bandwidth bill now...

Scenario II

Period 1: 10,000 clicks, 1 signup. TGP webmaster leaves the program and tries to find a better one. He tells no-one about his experience because he has heard from GFY people that they convert 1:200 and he only converted 1:10000 and he's so ashamed. He might even email the paysite owner that he was only sending 404 traffic and it was going great but he's too busy with his own paysite.

If he would have stayed with the program, period 2 would have looked like: 10,000 clicks - 10 signups

Seriously, remember that when the amount of clicks and signups are statistically kinda low, you shouldnt think that you're being shaved because obviously it might be just luck one period, bad luck the other. A common mistake is to assume the conversion rate of a good 1st period as your NORMAL conversion rate, and if the next one is worse, you think something is wrong. With an exactly same statistical probability those conversion rates could be vice versa, and in that case you shouldnt automatically think you became a marketing genius within one pay period.

Your real conversion ratio is never the conversion rate of your best or worst pay period, it is something in between!
